Privacy Policy for Hanzi Master VN

Vanung University Research Team (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the Hanzi Master VN mobile application (the “App”). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our App.

1. Information Collection and Use

Hanzi Master VN is designed to run entirely offline for its core learning features. The App does not require you to create an account and does not upload your learning progress, points, or usage history to any external servers.

1.1 Local Storage

The App stores your learning progress, points, and settings locally on your device using the device’s internal storage. If you uninstall the app or clear the app’s data, this local progress will be deleted. We do not have access to this data.

1.2 Voluntary Sentence Submissions

The App includes an optional feature that allows you to submit example sentences (例句) for vocabulary words. When you use this feature, the following information is stored on our servers (hosted by Supabase):

• The sentence you write (user-generated content)
• A display name (username) you choose to identify your submission

This information is voluntary — you are never required to submit a sentence. No real name, email address, or identity verification is required. The display name and sentences you submit may be visible to other users of the App.

We use this data solely to populate the community example sentence library within the App. We do not use it for advertising or sell it to third parties.

2. Permissions

To function properly, the App may request certain device permissions:

• Network Access: Used for loading community example sentences from our server and for submitting your own example sentences (if you choose to use that feature). The app’s core learning modules (characters, vocabulary, writing practice) work fully offline.
• Text-To-Speech (TTS): The App uses your device’s built-in Text-To-Speech engine to pronounce Chinese characters. This process happens entirely locally on your device and no audio data is transmitted to us.

3. Third-Party Services

The App may contain links to other sites (such as opening your email app to send feedback). If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site or app. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

Supabase

Example sentence data is stored using Supabase, a cloud database service. Data submitted through the sentence feature is stored on Supabase’s servers. Please review Supabase’s Privacy Policy for information on how they handle data.

Capacitor Framework

The App is packaged using the Capacitor framework for iOS and Android. The framework itself does not collect personal data on our behalf. Standard platform crash reporting (managed by Apple or Google at the OS level) may apply based on your device settings, but we do not receive personally identifiable information from these reports.

4. Children’s Privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.

5. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
